Efficient Ammonia Marine Engine Showcased at SMW 2026

Prof. Wenming Yang and his team are currently showcasing the Efficient Ammonia Marine Engine at the 20th Singapore Maritime Week (SMW), organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). On 21 April, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong, Acting Minister for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Finance Jeffrey Siow, and Senior Minister of State for Law and Transport Murali Pillai SC visited the Maritime SG Showcase. The engine is one of ten projects featured in the showcase.

The project focuses on a novel in cylinder reforming gas recirculation (IRGR) engine concept, led by the NUS Centre for Hydrogen Innovations (CHI) and supported by the Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI), bringing together industry and academic partners to advance next generation ammonia fuelled marine engines.

As the maritime industry moves towards a cleaner future, innovations like this play a key role in shaping what comes next. The transition to sustainable shipping is already underway, and this project contributes to that growing momentum. Head down to the 20th Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) at Suntec Convention Centre, Hall 403 to 405, to see it in action!
